CODE OF ETHICS
Hypnotism International/Training, Education & Research

The following Code of Ethics has been adopted by Hypnotism International/Training, Education & Research. Since hypnosis is susceptible to popular misunderstanding and to sensationalism, this Code of Ethics shall be subscribed to by all individuals certified or associated with this organization using hypnosis either clinically, experimentally or for entertainment.  Living in a free country, our goal is to promote harmony & cooperation amongst competent practitioners of hypnotism whenever possible. We also promote continuing education for all individuals & organizations in the field of hypnotism/hypnotherapy.
We also subscribe to the belief that the true art and science of hypnotism incorporates an understanding of the body/mind/spirit trinity. This allows an open acceptance within the unique human experience that will continually unfold before us, thereby allowing us to be more effective in our cooperative efforts with all individuals.

I.    The hypnotist shall at all times conduct themselves within a framework of moral, judicial and socially accepted principles.

II.     The hypnotist shall not employ ANY PROCEDURE, which is likely to mislead a client. The most basic obligation is to protect the welfare, respect the integrity and individuality of the individual with whom one is working.

III.    The hypnotist shall not claim either directly of inferentially any professional qualifications that exceed the scope and /or competency  of their training.

IV.   The hypnotist/hypnotherapist shall not treat, diagnose or cure any dis-ease unless that is part of their recognized professional procedure as lawfully stated within each country/state/county/territory/city/provence jurisdiction.

V.    All members shall present themselves, their services and capabilities in a professional manner. They shall not advertise or represent themselves in a way that is deceptive or misleading in their skills and/or training.

VI.   The hypnotist shall not mislead the client as to the degree or length of therapeutic intervention in the form of "guarantees".

VII.    Members shall keep proper records necessary to a professional practice.

VIII.  Advanced Hypnotherapeutic techniques shall be used only by those with advanced training in those specific techniques of study.

IX.   Hypnotists (30 hours of training or less) shall not promote themselves as a Master Hypnotist, Hypnotherapist, Clinical Hypnotherapist or use any title that they have not earned through proper education and study as certified and registered by a proper school of Hypnotherapeutic Studies.

X.     All members shall maintain a professional demeanor toward other professions expressing personal or opposing views about hypnosis.

XI.    Members shall at no time express themselves in sexually suggestive, degrading or humiliating ways with a client whether they be in a hypnotic state or not.  This includes sudden and dramatic emotional changes while client is in the hypnotic state.

XII.     Members shall endeavor to educate the public whenever possible to the true nature of hypnotism so as to promote hypnotism/hypnotherapy as a viable alternative self-healing modality.

XIII.   Members of the HITRE have a responsibility to monitor their own ethical behavior.  Members also have an obligation to maintain a professional practice and meet their financial dues to be considered and recommended as members in good standing with the Hypnotism International/Training, Education & Research .
